Origin and development
The Material Prize was first launched in 2013 as a competition for new materials. Following the rapid success and pioneering prize winners on the manufacturer and developer side, the focus was expanded in 2015 to include planners and their built projects, who can now also apply for the coveted award.
Intention of the Material Prize
The Material Prize focuses on material quality and innovation and offers a special stage for this. With their submissions, the participants show who is driving the industry forward the most. The jury then asks itself which innovations and solutions promise the greatest impact. With the vote, the best of the best become the winners.
Dual construction and material culture
The Material Prize is one of the few awards for materials in the construction industry and their application. It honors the processes in the material cycle that are mutually dependent and equally essential for the existence and progress of the industry - production and creation. The dual focus allows the unique format to cover the entire spectrum of material innovation and to grant both target groups their own award.
The high quality and innovative strength has made the Material Prize a seal of approval from the very beginning. The submissions and - above all - the awards and recognitions are perceived extremely positively in the professional world. The awards in recent years include ground-breaking processes, innovative designs and proven classics in the construction industry, as well as outstanding buildings and visionary use of materials. Previous winners include world-famous corporations and start-up companies as well as renowned offices and creative newcomers who clearly stand out from the crowd.
Reach
The Material Prize is a competition that deliberately focuses on the DACH countries. However, as good material culture knows no borders, we have already received submissions from over 20 nations. The Material Prize thus underlines its boundless appeal.
